Botox® (botulinumtoxinA), is a purified protein that temporarily improves the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in adults younger than 65 years of age. Botox® is the most popular treatment for reducing and eliminating frown muscles between the eyes, forehead creases, and crow’s feet near the eyes.
Botox® works by blocking the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance.
Botox® Cosmetic, is sometimes referred to “a facelift in a bottle”. When small doses are injected directly into the muscles, impulses from the nerves to the injected muscle causing the wrinkles are blocked – allowing them to relax. This relaxing of the muscle allows the skin to smooth out persistent lines that which developed over time.
Botox® treatments are nearly pain free and usually last about 10-15 minutes. Botox® will keep the muscles that cause lines relaxed for up to 3 to 4 months. Results are apparent within days.
