You know what it is like, your special day is coming up. It could be any special day….your birthday where you have a big party planned…your wedding…Mine was senior prom. I woke a few days before the big event to a HUGE pimple right in the middle of my forehead. Boy, did I need an emergency zit shot. Back when I was in school, I had no idea what to do. My mom prepared some hot compresses and we managed to relieve it before the big day. Add some heavy duty concealer and my pictures weren’t too bad. However, when I saw that an emergency zit shot even existed, I could not believe it.
What is an emergency zit shot and what can I expect?
To put it in the simplest of terms, it is a dermal injection of Kenalog. When I read that a second time, I still didn’t know what I meant. Do you know what it means? Let’s break it down together. First, it is a dermal injection. A dermal injection is an emergency zit shot is given in the skin at the site of the pimple. Kenalog is an anti-inflammatory…it is basically a diluted corticosteroid. The doctor will look at the severity of the pimple and decide whether it needs to be drained a bit or not. The doctor will then inject the Kenalog directly at the site. The whole thing takes a few minutes. Within a few hours, you should notice reduction in swelling. Within 24 hours, it will be nearly, if not completely, gone.
