Everywhere I go, I keep hearing about getting a B-12 shot. I was out with a friend and it was that time of the afternoon. You know, around 3:00, 3:30 and no matter how hard you try, you cannot stop yawning. We were out in Oceanside shopping around the antique stores on Pacific Coast Highway….oh did I mention that she has 3 kids. By 3:00, I was begging for a coffee and a pastry, and some quiet. When I voiced what rose to a need, my friend replied, “Nope, I’ll just hop over to the clinic and get a B-12 shot.” I was hooked. I needed to know more.
What is a B-12 shot?
Well,B-12 is a water soluble vitamin. It is a member of the B family of vitamins. B-12 is necessary for proper digestion of your food. However, the great thing about B-12 is that you will likely feel a nice boost in your energy level. The more you need B-12, the nicer the boost.
So, why the B-12 shot? Why not just take a B-12 tablet? That is a great follow up question, glad you asked. The tablet may have an energy boosting effect, but it will take longer to digest and will likely not be as potent. Your body doesn’t use all the vitamin as some of it will be lost in the digestion process. With a B-12 shot, you know that you are using 100% of the vitamin as it is being put directly into your blood.
Okay, I am sold. Where do I get a B-12 shot?
You may be shocked at the variety of places you can get at B-12 shot. My friend got one super easy. We pulled up to Oceanside Urgent Care, she jumped out, and within a couple of minutes, she was back in the car. She told me that she buys the shots as a package. You must get a B-12 shot through a doctor or nurse practitioner. Your local diet clinic usually offers them. Also, check your local health food store. They often have a person who comes in a administers the shots once or twice a month. Your best bet, in my opinion, is still Oceanside Urgent Care & Family Practice.
